Basic firefighting (Fire Marshal)

On the 20 th of August 2021, Mr Shaun Hartley who is a registered fire fighter from fire fox,
came to school to teach the basic firefighting course (fire Marshal). Mr Wonderboy Luthuli
(HOD), Mr Wonderboy Mbili, Mr Maniraj Ramsaroop and Mr Gerald Conradie attended this
short course.

The course predominantly focused on implementing fire drills and evacuation as well as the
correct use of a fire extinguisher. This also helped the attendees to be able to

 Identify different types of fires.
 Explain and practise fire prevention.
 Operate basic firefighting equipment.
 Perform basic firefighting procedures.
 Identify different types of emergency situations.
 Understand and implement an emergency evaluation plan.

“It is useful to have a fire Marshal at school as they act as a backup while waiting for fire
fighters “so it’s Mr Shaun Hartley. ‘’ Should there be an incident at school it is the duty of the:

fire Marshals to take charge and lead the kids and employees to safety’’.
The attendees will receive fire Marshal certificates. The Hlanganani Preparatory school will like to thank Mr
Shaun Hartley for conducting this short course.
Mr Nkazimulo Nyawose taught the Foundation Phase learners on the Safety around the
water.
Learners enjoyed illustrations he did for them with his dolls to demonstrate.
